Philippe Caubère was indicted for rape and sexual assault on minors on Thursday February 8.
JUSTICE – The actor Philippe Caubère, aged 73, was indicted for rape and sexual assault on minors this Thursday, February 8, after complaints filed by three alleged victims. The information, revealed by The Parisianwas confirmed in the evening by the Créteil public prosecutor's office to Agence France-Presse, France Info or BFM TV.
This indictment comes after a hearing of Philippe Caubère after he was placed in police custody on Tuesday February 6. The actor, known for having played Joseph Pagnol in The glory of my father and numerous roles in the theater, but also for his regular defense of libertinismhad been under investigation since the beginning of January after the accusations of a young woman, now aged 28, who had filed a complaint January 8 for facts of“sexual abuse” in 2012. She was then 16 years old, and the actor was 61 years old: the young woman would then have suffered forced penetrations, blowjobs, and kisses in Philippe Caubère's studio in Saint-Mandé.
Two new alleged victims
Contacted by AFP at the opening of this investigation, Philippe Caubère's lawyer, Me Marie Dosé, declared that her client recognized “have maintained an intimate relationship with [la plaignante] when she was a minorbut on the other hand denied any “ anal or vaginal penetration », while indicating that he only had consensual relations with her. Philippe Caubère’s lawyer had also linked “ the sudden media coverage of this complaint” to its client's recent support for Gérard Depardieu – Philippe Caubère had signed the letter of support published at the end of December calling not to “erase” the actor.
The investigation opened following these denunciations nevertheless led to Philippe Caubère being taken into custody and questioned on February 6. He was interviewed by Val-de-Marne territorial security investigators, specifies the Créteil public prosecutor's office, who reclassified the facts as rape and sexual assault.
His indictment also comes because he is also accused by two other alleged victims, we learned this Thursday. One of them would be a young woman who denounces facts which allegedly took place in Paris and Saint-Mandé in 2010 and 2011, according to The Parisian : for these accusations, Philippe Caubère was indicted for “sexual assault on a minor over 15 years old by a person in authority” And “rape of a minor by a person in authority”. Did the other alleged victim report facts that allegedly took place in Paris and La Fare-les-Oliviers (Bouches-du-Rhône), between 2019 and 2021, again according to The Parisian : the indictment of Philippe Caubère took place, as such, for corruption of a minor over 15 years old.
France Info specifies that Philippe Caubère is now “placed under judicial supervision with in particular a ban on carrying out an activity involving habitual contact with minors and a ban on entering into contact with the victims”. The actor had already been targeted in 2018 by a complaint for rape, filed by actress Solveig Halloin, and dismissed. The actress subsequently was convicted of defamation.
